'Back in stock' notification
When a product is out of stock, the customer be able to request notification of availability by entering an email address on the product detail page. When stock is added in the admin area, there should be an option to notify customers which would email those who left an email address for the updated product.
More specifically, when the product is out of stock, there should be a small body of text that shows up on the website. The text would be somewhere near the add-to-cart button. The value of the text should be set in the admin panel by the site admin so they can customize the message that is displayed to the customer when there is a backordered product.
If the customer is not logged in, then when the customized backorder message is displayed there will be a checkbox saying "Notify Me" when the product is back in stock. When the potential customer clicks this checkbox a text field will be displayed allowing them to enter an email address to notify them.
If the customer is logged in, they should just have to click a checkbox that says "Notify Me" which will harvest their email address and store somewhere in the database that this customer would like to be notified when the product is back in stock.
The email that is sent to the customer should be something we can edit from the admin panel.

I echo Roy's wish to have the feature work on the category page as many customers will not look at the product details page if they see an item out of stock. We had this with our old Miva cart.

I am agree with home@abitofhome.ca's idea to have feedback and also, this future only available in product's details page but not in catalog view. So, if customer looks in catalog mode and can see that product is out of stock maybe will not pay attention to go in and see this option. So, will be great to have it on catalog view too, without going into product's details page.
And also, this is very useful option and please, make this option by default on. It can't make any problem, it is just very useful. Or at list make some check box in the setting where admin can setup up this option by default.
Also, it will be good to have some statistic by which vendors and admin can see on which product there are request to make his best to bring this product in stock.
Thanks

Good feature but need to have a customer feedback message that their email address has been accepted. Right now it looks like the feature does not do anything when you put your address in.

I like the addition of this functionality but highly disappointed that it doesn't have the ability to work with product options. :( Will that be added at any time?
Thanks! -

I agree with Ian's comments. We have this on another cart and it brings in a lot of business clients may have missed out on. I also agree to show if an item is out of stock that it has an expected date to when it may be back in stock or to display something like "Discontinued" or "Replaced by xxxxx"

I've had this on another cart and yes, it definitely helped sales. Additionally, it adds to your email list significantly. Simply replace the add to cart button with an "Add to Waiting List" button which opens an ajax form to capture the email address. Two ways to manage the emails, simple way is to send the email to your email client for you to manage there or better, manage it within the admin as an incomplete order, that can be completed upon inventory availability.

I'm in need of this option NOW !!!!!!!
I am a seller of "recut" player piano rolls.
Meaning, I send my old original rolls off to a recutter, they scan them in, store the files on a computer, uses a machine to cut NEW rolls by reading the file previously scanned.
They can make up to 10 rolls at a time.
So I can have rolls as REAL "In Stock" and some rolls as BACK ORDERED "in Stock" (in the case I need to have that particular roll sent in for the one time scanning.)
Right now, I have about 6 "potential" customers that have 60 rolls total on Wish Lists.
NOBODY have bit the TRUST bullet and actually ordered these rolls - yet.
Thanks, Duaine

This is a very good suggestion... I would love this too.. except for the fact tat it seems at the moment.. the inventory tracking is not fully explained.. I have times when I do not know which setting to configure when I import products.. O or B? Initially I used O.. then realised.. after import, the quantity column is indicated as Edit hyperlink and it links to a Combination section.. which I have no idea what is it about?!?!
Now that I use B.. it seems to retain the quantity number box but somehow sometimes the quantity is still 0 though i have entered 100 in the Quantity column in my csv file..maybe I'm missing something.. do enlighten if you can..
Anyway once the above is improved, with the backorder / notification of back in stock function... CS-Cart will rock! Coupled with other improvements as well.

The only recommendation that I have is that the watchlist operate for both guests and logged in users. I have a number of folks who don't want to create a full account but still want to be notified by email when something comes in.

I posted this elsewhere but it's worth repeating:
Bottom line: the already highly competitive ecommerce industry has become hypercompetitve. The vendor who provides the best tools for customer acquisition (e.g., really good SEO, data feeds, easy site navigation) and retention (e.g., cart abandonment tools, customer communication) will have an edge over its competitors.
Most of our out-of-stock situations are the result of stock-outs at the manufacturer or distributor. If I can be the first to notify the customer that I have stock, I have a much better chance of getting that sale.

Considering all that this cart does, it is surprising that it does not have this function.

I agree. This mod is very useful. Yes, there is a mod out there which cost about $90. I think that would be nice to add as default in future release.

The cart will display the date set in 'Available since' on the product if it is in the future.
