How can we improve CS-Cart?

SEO addon change to have the better rating in search engines

In CS CART 2.012 there has to be unique SEO name for category and product pages. This is wrong. Because if you have subcategories with the same name or the category the same name as the product, you have to create different name. The right should be like this:

Product, category and pages names can be duplicate if the full URL is unique:

e.g. this structure should be possible after the change:

http://domain.com/books/motivation/
http://domain.com/recordings/motivation/
http://domain.com/motivation/recordings

now it is not possible. BUt tu have the structure of the document the search engines likes, wee need it.

If you would like to have it custom coded it is approximatelly 700 USD. So give vote for this idea please.

The suggestion is for the following. I quote:
"Product, category and pages names can be duplicate if the full URL is unique"
The person suggesting this used categories as an example. According to your support department you have only implemented this for products in different categories. But not for pages or for any other product/category with unique URLS.
Therefore this suggestion is not implemented yet. Even though you have publicly announced that it was implemented in 4.2
    Your announcement states:
"Starting with version 4.2, the SEO name policy will be improved to allow duplicate SEO names; only the whole URL will have to be unique."
But according to your support department this is not true, as it only applies to unique urls in different categories. Not for any other unique url.

Above isn't the case. Definition of "the whole URL" does not include the language code prefix right now. Result: urls get messy with language suffixes.
    Big deal breaker for me.

Imac, I don't see why it is not possible. the url formats just need to have the language options:
    [lang]/productname
    [lang]/parentcategory/sub-category

I can't have a german site with english urls or vice versa. The only option would be to use additional store fronts for each language or drop cs-cart as a serious platform.

    Paul,
Within this task we have implemented the ability to create same SEO names the way it was described in the description of idea.

Unfortunately this is not possible in case you use different Languages and "Use single URL for all languages" option is not enabled, that is caused by the significant complexity of the changes that should be made once someone change any SEO settings.

So at the moment we recommend you to enable "Use single URL for all languages" thus all your URLs will be the same except the language prefix.

Please explain how this is completed.
I am on 4.2.2. and still cannot have the same seo name with multiple languages active.
It keeps appending the language code eventhough the whole url would be unique without it.
    Bug or feature?

are the SEO changes not already deployed or are there more changes and features being deployed?

If so, I assume in version 5 of CS-cart?

What are the features defined for Version 5?

Removing file extension (“.html” and “forward slashes /”) from URLs will benefit as well in terms of SEO and visibility.

    Examples:
    http://domain.com/books
    http://domain.com/recordings
    http://domain.com/recordings/motivation

Here is a great article explaining why we should avoid file extensions and instead use extension-less URLs:

Please add an option to keep all products under single directory link, such as “/products/”.

    Examples:
    http://www.cs-cart.com/products/item33
    http://www.cs-cart.com/products/item34
    http://www.cs-cart.com/products/item35

    Benefits:
    - Better visibility; users will always know that they on product page
    - Easy manage product pages via Robots.txt file by adding single directory (allow/disallow)

Extension-less URLs will be great addition to this project.

Get rid off forward slash “/” and “.html” at the end of URL.

    I agrees as well!

I will consider this to be a big issue from SEO perspective.

Definitely every shopping cart software mainly depends on its SEO link structure. The links for products, categories (all level) and pages should be SEO friendly links. Can someone make a addon that re-structures the links to SEO friendly links

  • PaulPaul commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

    Agree.
    This should be perfectly acceptable:
    domain.com/en/category1
    domain.com/nl/category1

in 3.0.1, this cannot be done

    same category name, unique url

  • Mike-BWDMike-BWD commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Categories are key names in most sites so having this is a really important part of SEO.
It is better to have this as standard rather than having to custom code as it is a pain when updates are released.

I'm not sure, but maybe the new version of cs-cart rocks canonical URL add-on can solve this?

I agree totaly with this , it make me more likely to buy this product if it was going to be in a upgrade

I woud suggest a method which lets us over write URLs with our own Keywords for Cats and Sub Cats, Including Product Pages. This gives you better advantage for using keywords of your own choice.

Let me also remind you, H Tags are very important having further improvment for products pages to be optimised can results in products being found on google easier. This would results in better rate of sales.
